Tarantula Fun Fact #3: Hooks

Even when looking up close at a tarantula, it's still hard to see that this spider does in fact, have claws. Even though they live mostly on the ground floor of the wild, tarantulas still have the evolutionized grappling hooks to be able to climb and get away from predators. These claws are hard to locate on the ends of each leg because of the hair bristles being too long but some tarantulas are less hairy, making the hooks easier to see. The family of tarantulas (Theraphosidae) are the family of the biggest spider in the world currently and that the weight can easily bring them down when defying gravity. That's why tarantulas are more likely to fall. But most of the time when spiders (and insects) fall when climbing on walls, it's mostly because they've lost grip on accident not particularly because of weight.
